Updated HITECH Stage 1 Certification Info

ONC has announced that ATCBs can accept contracts to certify for HITECH Stage 1 up until fiscal year 2014, which starts 10/1/2013 for hospitals and 1/1/2014 for eligible professionals. 

ATCB contracts that are executed prior to the Stage 2 Final Rule effective date (October 3, 2012) will still be able to certify to the Temporary Certification Program Requirements.   However, if you sign a contract with an ATCB to certify on Stage 1 after the Stage 2 Final Rule effective date, you will be held to the Permanent Certification Program Requirements which include price transparency, public test results, etc.

So, if you still need to certify your EHR on Stage 1 and you want to test under the Temporary Certification Program Requirements, sign up with an ATCB before October 3rd!

Stage 2 Final Rule will be published 9/4/12

The Stage 2 Final Rule will be published 9/4/2012 according to The Office of the Federal Register's Public Inspection Desk.  Generally, the Final Rule is effective 30 days after the publish date, which, in this case, would be 10/4/2012.  It is on this date that the Stage 1 Certification Program will sunset meaning that ATCB's can no longer accept requests to certify systems on Stage 1 and anyone who has signed up with an ATCB to certify their system on Stage 1 will have 6 months to complete this certification.

Stage 1 - There is still time!

If you want to certify your system on Stage 1 of HITECH Certification, there is still time!

While the Final Rule was released to the public yesterday, it has not yet officially been published in the Federal Register.  Once it is published in the Federal Register, it typically becomes effective 30 days later. 

The good news for those people who wish to certify on Stage 1 is that the Temporary Certification Program does not sunset until the ONC Final Rule is effective.  On the date that the ONC Final Rule becomes effective, ATCB's can no longer accept new contracts to certify systems on the Temporary Certification Program - Stage 1. 

The Office of the Federal Register's Public Inspection Desk states that the CMS Final Rule (MU Incentives) is set to be published on 9/4/12.  There is currently no date listed for the ONC Final Rule (Certification).

Dynamic Code Mapper

Mapping codes from one system to another can be a big job, and not a pleasant one!

Meditech Connect - A Great Resource!

Dynamic Health IT recently discovered a great, new website called Meditech Connect and is proud to be the first vendor to join the Meditech Connect network. The site, ‘built by meditech users for meditech users’, is a great resource to anyone who works with any version of the Meditech systems. Meditech Connect’s membership has reached over 700 members and is rapidly gaining more support every day.

The Meditech Connect site offers something for everyone. Once you are a member (and membership is free!) you can join groups, read and post blogs, start discussions in the group forums, post job listings, participate in live events, and much more!

Meditech Connect offers Groups such as NPR and RD Report Writers, Old Faithful Magic Users, 6.0 Users, etc. This allows the members to get involved in topics they are interested in and can benefit from versus being included in all discussion. Once you join a group, you can post to the Discussion Forum and see other members in the group. You can also send a message to the group which is delivered to members in an email.

Blogs are also available on Meditech Connect. A hot topic on the Meditech Connect site in recent weeks has been the ‘Meditech 6.0 experience’ due to many articles coming out about 6.0 falling short on software and integration. With different Meditech Connect users weighing in on this topic, it has been interesting to read the differing opinions of the members. This information could be extremely useful information if you were contemplating an upgrade to 6.0.

Another informative service that Meditech Connect offers is Events that the site coordinates and hosts. For instance, on November 11th Meditech hosted Report Writer Friday’s, a social event to allow fellow NPR Report Writer’s to ‘get together and talk shop’. This is a fun way for members to ask questions of other experts or just network with users.
